Not only are they moving away from freelancers, they seem to be moving away from professional, credible reporters and maybe even reporting in general.  My editors tell me they spend most of their time re-assembling data from press releases and police logs...If Patch is going to rely mainly on user-submitted content, they are going to become the text version of YouTube.
